Feel history come alive as you tour the ruins of Ayutthaya, once the world's largest city with over one million inhabitants. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, magnificent historical sites are scattered around the modern city. Upon arrival, you'll visit the beautiful 200-year-old Bang Pa-In Summer Palace. Used by the royal court in the 17th century, its delightful Thai-style pavilion stands in the middle of an artificial lake and an observatory on a small island commands wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Then, stop for photos at Yaichaimongkol Temple, built by King U-Thong in 1357 for meditation. Refuel with a buffet lunch before continuing to Mahathat Temple where the Buddha's head is encased in fig tree roots. Last but not least is a visit to the majestic Wat Phra Si Sanpet, the holiest temple on the site of the old Royal Palace.
