Turquoise waters, green forests, rare wildlife and a fascinating archaeological history await your arrival at Motuarohia Island Sanctuary. And what better way to reach its shores than aboard a luxurious catamaran? Enjoy the sea breeze as the ample deck beckons you to unwind and keep your eyes open for marine life like dolphins and seals. Established in the 1950s as a private scenic reserve and wildlife refuge, Motuarohia is home to a number of New Zealand's rare and endangered plants, birds and reptiles. First discovered by Captain Cook, the island is inhabited by up to 300 Maori, believed to be the descendants of the first Maori settlers. Once ashore, you can explore archaeological wonders, including defensive pâ, and terraces and pits.
