From the pier, you'll travel to the native settlement of Touna Aute, an authentic, living village of indigenous Kalinago located in northeastern Dominica. Also known as the Caribs, the Kalinago take great pride in the traditional art forms that have been preserved and are still practiced. Once you arrive, the community leader, a former Kalinago Chief, will welcome you to the community and provide a historical overview of the Kalinago people. Then, you can participate in activities at Kalinago family homes such as basket weaving, bamboo weaving, making traditional fish traps, squeezing sugar cane juice and making cassava bread. Discover how herbs are used for healing, shop for arts and crafts and enjoy local snacks and drinks.
