The golden age of rail is alive and well on this intriguing half-day excursion from Kristiansand. Board your motorcoach and drive north from Kristiansand through the stunning Setesdal Valley. Arriving at the Grovane train station, you'll board the narrow gauge Setesdal Vintage Railway for a popular trip that recreates the atmosphere of a turn-of-the-century railroad journey. Excitement builds as the restored 1894 steam locomotive whistle blows, heralding the start of your scenic tour. Your final destination is Røyknes, where you will re-board your coach for the return journey to the quaint seaside town of Kristiansand, a center of culture and commerce since its founding in 1641.

In summer, prolonged dry weather conditions may cause risk of forest fires. Therefore, steam locomotives emitting sparks may be replaced by diesel locomotives without advance notice.The actual train excursion is approximately 30 minutes long. Carriages are not equipped with electric lights - tunnels are traversed in the dark.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing suited to the day's conditions. Bring a hat and a light waterproof jacket.
