Spend a day traveling the Welsh border country. Your tour begins with a scenic drive to Llangollen, a small village in the Dee Valley famed for its International Eisteddfod, a festival of folk music, costumes, and dance. En route, you'll witness views of rugged mountains and the Vale of Clywd. In Llangollen, you'll browse the village shops, then drive to the Chester, a town founded by the Romans in 75 AD. Here, you'll see the city's historic towers and ancient gates, as well as its unique 13th-century 'rows,' half-timbered galleried shops on two stories. After a lunch, you'll head to Chester Cathedral, a 13th-century Norman cathedral that was the site of Handel's first public performance of 'The Messiah' in 1742. Before returning to Liverpool, you'll have an opportunity to snap a photo of the Eastgate Clock, said to be the most photographed clock in England after Big Ben.
