The drive from Lahaina around the pali (cliff) and on to Upcountry Maui and the North Shore is extraordinary. After stopping at McGregor Point, where whales are often seen leaping from the sea during winter and spring, you'll head to Upcountry Maui and historic Makawao town. You can still see remnants of this historic hamlet's paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) past but today Makawao is known more as a thriving arts community. Embark on a guided nature walk to a breathtaking waterfall overlook in the Ho'olawa Valley. Then marvel at the views and lush gardens at the Maui Tropical Plantation.
