A full-day adventure exploring Iwate Prefecture and the stunning Sanriku coastline by both rail and motorcoach awaits. Begin with a one-hour drive to the Sanriku Railway, where you'll embark on a picturesque train ride, gazing upon the deep blue Pacific Ocean and dramatic shoreline through panoramic windows. Arrive at Kuji, one of the world's great producers of amber, and proceed to the Kuji Amber Museum, the only museum in Japan dedicated to amber, for an in-depth education on this ancient gemstone through hands-on displays and exhibits. Continue on to the Kitayamazaki Cliffs, one of the most impressive landscapes of the Rikuchu Coast, where 656-foot (200-meter) cliffs stretch across five miles (eight kilometers) of rugged coastline. From the observation deck, take wonderful photographs and, at the rest house, enjoy a tasty local lunch (raw fish and rice bowl). Return to port on a relaxed, 1.5-hour drive at the end of this memorable day.
