WHAT YOU WILL VISIT:
Ryusendo Cave
One of the Three Great Limestone Caves in Japan, Ryusendo Cave is a national natural monument. The cave's length is believed to extend 2.2 miles (3,600 meters), of which 0.4 miles (700 meters) is accessible to the public. Within this subterranean world, you'll find formations such as stalactites and stalagmites, as well as unique long-eared bats. There are many emerald-green lakes and fresh-spring pools with crystalline waters considered among the most transparent in the world. Bridges, elevated walkways, and stairs transport visitors through the underground environment.

Jodogahama Beach and Visitor's Center
Designated as a national scenic spot, Jodogahama Beach, which is Buddhist for 'Pure Land,' is a beautiful white-pebble beach that creates a striking landscape against deep blue ocean waters punctuated by rocky islands and the surrounding lush green palm trees. This popular tourist attraction along the Sanriku Coast boasts a Visitors Center with a small museum that displays the natural history of this treasured coastline.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE ALONG THE WAY:
Miyako City, located in the center of the coastal area of Iwate Prefecture, suffered devastating damage from the 2011 tsunami. Swells of water swept across the city's coastal districts, destroying everything in its path. You'll see the devastation as you travel past the tsunami ruins of the Taro Kanko Hotel. Parts of Miyako fall within the Sanriku Fukko National Park and the city is known for its spectacular eastern coastline, which envelops Miyako Bay and its craggy rock formations along the Pacific Ocean. Whether viewed from the window of the motorcoach or from a chartered railway, despite its tragic past, its beauty still shines.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY:
Sannoiwa Rocks
Carved by centuries of wind and pounding surf, the Sannoiwa Rocks, overlooking the Sanriku coastal area, consist of three huge bolders including 50-meter-high Otoko-iwa (male rock) in the center, Onna-iwa (female rock) on the left and Taiko-iwa (drum rock) on the right, they rise as high as 164 feet (50m). There is a small sea cave tucked into the Otoko-iwa formation, and legend tells that if one passes through the hole, they will be blessed with good fortune.

昼食:
Enjoy a bowl with raw seafood.

特記事項:

The cave's year-round temperature is approximately 10°C/50°F so you may need an extra jacket. Please wear non-skid shoes for walking on a cave as the ground is wet and slippery. Since Ryusendo cave is a 'living' cave, some water always drips from the cave's roof. When it rains, the ground is more slippery than usual. Guests need to negotiate 310 steps and 765 yards each way. Currently the cave is one way to avoid close contacts and guest will use the temporary exit which requires you to climb 60 steps. This condition may be lifted depending on the covid-19 situation. This condition also applies during the peak season to avoid congestion(end of April to beginning of May and mid-August). You will walk 10 mins with 90 steps to the Sannoiwa Rocks from the parking lot. The tour order may vary. Japanese Yen is required for additional purchases.
