Aoshima Island is ringed with beautiful, white sandy beaches and two must-see destinations. A panoramic drive brings you to Aoshima Island, connected by a pedestrian bridge to the mainland. Upon arrival, you'll visit the Aoshima Shrine. Although the date of this ancient shrine was founded is unknown, it's believed to have been in the 9th century. It was rebuilt in 1503 and maintained since that time. Set amid jungle scenery, this brightly painted shrine is believed to bring good fortune to couples in love. Along the way, you'll see rock formations known as the Devil's Washboard. A photo stop at Phoenix Road Station offers magnificent coastal views and a chance to shop. Then it's on to the Shochu Distillery. Similar to sake, shochu is enjoyed with meals, served as an aperitif, or an after dinner drink. Enjoy a taste and learn how it's made with a factory tour.
