Among Miyazaki's charms are legendary sites including ruins of a unique 567-year-old castle and revered ancient shrines all tucked within a dreamlike landscape. Explore these significant landmarks during a full day tour. First on the itinerary is Obi Castle Town, a Designated Historical Preservation District and former headquarters for the Shimazu shogun. You'll be provided with an Ayumi-chan Map, offering discounts at participating restaurants and souvenir shop. After a Japanese set menu lunch, you're off on a leisurely drive to the tiny island of Aoshima. Here stands the beloved Aoshima Shrine, a designated National Natural Monument, which has existed since the Heian Period of the 9th century. Another serene spot is the Udo Jingu shrine. Built approximately 2,000-years-ago, the brightly painted shrine sits inside a cave on the side of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Last stop of the day is for free time to shop before returning to port.
