You'll board a motorcoach for a scenic journey through rolling, forested countryside on your way to the Shikotsu-Toya National Park and the "Rim of Fire." Be sure to bring your camera. You'll pause for photos by beautiful Lake Toya, formed when an eruption of a volcano about 100 thousand years ago diverted a stream to create this vast pool. From there, it's a short drive to Mount Usu (Usuzan), one of the most active volcanoes in Japan. It's erupted four times within last 100 years (in 1910, 1944, 1977 and 2000). A gondola ride up the Ropeway will bring you close to the volcano's summit, 2,404 feet above sea level. There you can bask in the spectacular views of the coast, neighboring Showa Shinzan, Japan's youngest volcano, "born" in 1945 and Mount Usu's largest crater.

This tour involves stairclimbing and is not recommended to passengers with limited mobility. After the gondola ride up Mount Usu, guest may climb 136 stairs to the mountain's obervatory(optional). Wear comfortable, low-heeled walking shoes. Bring local currency for purchases.Child Price:
