Celebrate Nagoya's history and culture with visits to a trio of beloved sites beginning with Nagoya Castle Hommaru Palace, which offers a glimpse into the splendor that surrounded the feudal lords. Originally built in 1612, the palace was considered a masterpiece with richly decorated gold-covered walls and screens. The palace was destroyed during WWII but has been authentically rebuilt by traditional Japanese craftsmen using traditional techniques and materials. For a look at the city's devotion to Buddhism, you'll visit Osu Kannon Temple. First built in 1324, this famous and beloved temple is a replica of its original design. Prayer flags and red lanterns greet worshippers, and the smell of incense wafts from the main hall. Another sacred site is Atsuta Shrine. Established 1,900 years ago, the serene complex is considered one of Shinto's most important shrines. After a peaceful and meditative stroll through the grounds, you'll return to Nagoya.
