Begin your guided walk through the new suburban area with interesting architecture and views of a culture in development. Continue on to the Colonial Harbor area. The city was founded by missionary Hans Egede in 1728, and a commemorative statue of Egede now overlooks the sea, a popular photo opportunity. Your stroll takes you past several heritage sites and colorful homes, all enhanced by commentary from your knowledgeable guide. A favorite highlight is the Mother of the Sea sculpture, which depicts an Inuit legend and is visible only during low tide. Pay a visit to the National Museum showcasing the island's impressive history and featuring kayaks, dog sleds and other treasures of Inuit and Viking culture as well as preserved Inuit mummies more than 500 years old.
