Board your transportation and travel coastal routes to the entrance of the Valdes Peninsula. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, the peninsula is one of the Southern Hemisphere's major wildlife preserves. Stop at the Visitors Center for an overview of the region's flora and fauna. Drive past desolate headlands and saltwater lakes to Caleta Valdes. This shallow lagoon is enclosed by a hook-shaped gravel spit. Large numbers of elephant seals bask on the shingle, and guanacos - South American camels - frequent the beach as well. Penguins are establishing a rookery nearby. Continue to Puerto Piramide, a small fishing village on the Golfo Nuevo, to view a large sea lion rookery. Southern right whales, orcas and dolphins frequent the gulf. Board your transportation for the return trip to Puerto Madryn.

Temperatures fluctuate widely in Patagonia. Dress in warm layers, wear sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots and bring a waterproof jacket, hat and bottled water.Transportation in Puerto Madryn utilizes basic transportation which are not to the same standard as touring coaches in the larger metropolitan areas. Buses will not be air conditioned and roads may be rough and dusty.
