This historic half-day tour is designed to peel back the layers of Salalah, starting with a drive through the fishing village of Taqa. Head to the Samhurum archeological site, situated beside the Khawr Rawri beach. In ruins now, Samhurum, was a major frankincense trading port, dating back to 100 BC. Queen Sheba had the palace built for her to reside-in during her visits, and the remains stand on a small hill overlooking Khawr Rawri. Enjoy lecture from a local personality about the site's history before visiting Bin Ali's Tomb, a fine example of medieval Islamic architecture. From here, head to the ancient Al Balid archaeological site, located on Salalah's waterfront. Between the 12th and 16th centuries, this site was the hub of Dhofar's frankincense trade. Take photos of these ancient trees, and learn how the plant is tapped for its valuable, aromatic sap before returning to the ship.
