Ortygia at Siracusa

Marvel at the architecture of some of the world's greatest civilizations with a full day excursion to Ortygia just outside the fabled city of Siracusa. Originally founded as a Greek colony in 734 B.C., the city is an acclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site. Feel the centuries slip away as you amble along the narrow streets to a popular viewpoint that boasts beautiful views of the bay. Photos taken, you'll proceed to Piazza Duomo, home of the city's most impressive Baroque architecture including the resplendent Siracusa Cathedral. Back on the coach you'll drive to the site of the Greek Theater. Built in the 5th century B.C., the well-preserved amphitheatre was carved out of solid rock. Nearby sits the 1st century A.D. Roman amphitheater, where Siracusans held bloody gladiator fights. As you return to Catania, you'll stop for lunch where you can share your day with your fellow travelers.
