Best of Mt. Etna & Catania (Small Groups)

Depart from the pier on a scenic ride to Europe's largest active volcano. While en route, enjoy the delightful countryside of vineyards and orchards, while passing the villages of Santa Venerina and Zafferana and the fertile fields on the side of the mountain. You will see the remnants of the last eruptions in 10月 2002. You will arrive at Silvestri Spent Craters, almost 6,400 feet above sea level where you will be able to walk along the brim of these craters. Your tour continues with a pleasant drive through the Ionian Coastline until the city of Catania. Situated at the foot of Mt. Etna, Catania is Sicily's second largest city and capital of the Eastern part of the island: it has suffered an endless series of natural disasters, from the violent eruptions of Mt. Etna to fierce earthquakes causing massive destruction.
As a result of these natural catastrophes, the city was in a state of reconstruction for several decades. The great quantities of black lava and limestone were put to use as the city was rebuilt in the Baroque architectural style. You will stop in town where the guide will lead you through the marvellous Catania streets lined up with ancient buildings of historical importance and churches belonging to different artistical periods. Highlights will include the Roman Amphitheatre, the Collegiata Church (the former Royal Chapel), the University Palace, and the Cathedral. Enjoy a typical sicilian lunch before returning to the pier.
