Mt Etna & Time on Your Own in Catania

Depart from the pier on a scenic ride to Europe's largest active volcano. While en route, enjoy the delightful countryside of vineyards and orchards, while passing the villages of Santa Venerina and Zafferana and the fertile fields on the side of the mountain. You will see the remnants of the last eruptions in 10月 2002. You will arrive at Silvestri Spent Craters, almost 6,400 feet above sea level where you will be able to walk along the brim of these craters. You'll have time to enjoy a taste of our typical cannolo before proceeding to the city of Catania. Situated at the foot of Mt. Etna, Catania is Sicily's second largest city and capital of the Eastern part of the island: it has suffered an endless series of natural disasters, from the violent eruptions of Mt. Etna to fierce earthquakes causing massive destruction.
As a result of these natural catastrophes, the city was in a state of reconstruction for several decades. The great quantities of black lava and limestone were put to use as the city was rebuilt in the Baroque architectural style. You will stop in town where the guide will lead you through the marvellous Catania streets lined up with ancient buildings of historical importance and churches belonging to different artistical periods. You'll have time to explore the town on your own and taste some of our Sicilian specialties like the Arancina or the Cassata Siciliana (not included) before to drive back to the pier.
