Your excursion begins at the pier where you are transported to the Johnson GEO CENTRE. Here you'll hear the stories of Newfoundland's ancient volcanoes, recent glaciers, and rocks from the centre of the earth. Newfoundland forms the continent's eastern edge and is a treasure trove of minerals. The space-age Johnson GEO CENTER, which opened in the summer of 2002, is considered to be one of the world's foremost geological museums, featuring all kinds of interactive exhibits that are housed in an amazingly designed subterranean building. The GEO CENTRE also features a special exhibit that tells the untold story of how and why the Titanic sank off Newfoundland. It's a fascinating story and a memorable venue to visit.
En route back to the ship, you'll stop at Signal Hill for a photo opportunity and panoramic view of the rugged coastline and picturesque harbor. Located at the headland of St. John's Harbour, Signal Hill was used to defend the city from seaward attack. It's also the site where Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal. Enjoy the rugged beauty and check out the Cabot Tower, built to commemorate John Cabot's voyage of discovery.
