Experience the island's African, French, and English roots, known as creole. The fun begins with a sightseeing tour through the winding streets of Castries and on to the island's picturesque northern region. First stop is St. Marks, a grand 19th century home situated atop Morne Fortune, a steep hill overlooking Castries harbor. Outside, the sprawling veranda boasts panoramic views; inside is an interior that reflects European and African influences. After a sampling of traditional dry snacks and rum punch, you'll continue on to Howelton Estate/Caribelle Batik for a look at artisans' handprint fabrics by the 2,500-year-old Indonesian wax-and-dye process known as batik. Then, it's on to Fond Latisab Creole Park for a lesson in making cassava bread, an island staple, and a lively performance by a shak-shak/folk band. Once you've completed your journey of sight, scent and taste, you'll board the coach and return to your ship.
